Hydration Drinks and Energy Drinks are often seen together on the same grocery store shelves and both are marketed to energize and make you feel good, but they are nothing alike.
Many people grab an energy drink before considering what they really need. Feeling fatigued is a common symptom shared by people who have not had enough sleep or could be dehydrated.
Quite often people will grab an energy drink to feel more alert, but the real need may be hydration.
Energy Drinks:
Temporarily boosts alertness, reaction time, and endurance for individuals who are tired or fatigued. These drinks are high in caffeine and often high in sugar. We tend to feel good after drinking one of these because the caffeine blocks the brains chemical “adenosine” from doing its job. Adenosine tells the body when it’s tired. Caffeine also increases the levels of Dopamine, so we feel good.
They are not commonly considered healthy beverages, but used on occasion, they serve a purpose.
These drinks do not hydrate the body!!!
Hydration Drinks (Electrolyte Drinks):
Made to replenish lost electrolytes and water for long term health and energy. Keeping the proper balance of water and electrolytes in the body helps us think, learn, read, and focus.
Proper hydration is responsible for keeping our hearts beating and blood flowing as well as our ability to physically move. Keeping hydrated is natural and we feel best when we are fully hydrated.
